Released Israeli prisoner receives criticism, threats for blaming Netanyahu

(MENAFN) An Israeli woman who was released in a prisoner exchange with Hamas has reported receiving threats and derogatory comments from supporters of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after she criticized his government for its role in the October 7 attack.

Liri Albag, who was released about two months ago, recounted her experience in an interview with Israeli state television KAN. During the interview, she stated, “You are to blame, and you need to fix what you did,” addressing Netanyahu's administration directly.

In the wake of her comments, Albag faced considerable backlash from members of Netanyahu's Likud party. In an Instagram post, she shared her fears, saying, "I’m reading the comments, the threats, and the insults, and I’m scared."

Although she asserted that she is not afraid of the backlash itself, she expressed concern about societal divisions, remarking, "I didn’t expect to get such reactions from people in Israel.” She further noted, “You know what is the most difficult? That this [societal] rift is worse than our enemies."

In related news, the Israeli military has ramped up its operations in Gaza since March 18, leading to approximately 1,500 deaths and 3,700 injuries, effectively terminating a ceasefire and prisoner swap deal that was established in January.

Last week, Prime Minister Netanyahu pledged to intensify military actions in Gaza as part of ongoing efforts to implement a plan by US President Donald Trump aimed at displacing Palestinians from the area.
