Modi party representative assures India will not bow down to West

(MENAFN) India will not “bow down” to Western powers on issues ranging from security to trade, according to Jaiveer Shergill, a spokesperson for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), speaking on RT's Talking Bharat show with actor Anupam Kher.

Shergill stated that India has moved past the era of subservience, entering a new phase based on mutual respect and cooperation. He emphasized that predictions suggesting India would align with any specific global bloc are outdated.

“When it comes to international alignments, India has always followed its own path, walking alongside friends but not submitting to anyone,” Shergill declared.

His remarks come as the Global South increasingly asserts its influence on global decisions. Shergill pointed out that countries like New Delhi and Nairobi are now key players in global affairs, challenging the dominance of traditional decision-making centers like New York or Brussels.

The BJP spokesperson also touched on India's relationship with Russia, calling it a strong, enduring partnership. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow last year and the symbolic embrace between Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin as a sign of their close friendship. Shergill noted that Putin is expected to visit India later this year, with preparations already underway.
