Leader of S-Africa's EFF warns country could soon be led by white president
“If the ANC keeps up with its current approach, we will end up with Steenhuisen as president,” Malema said, referring to the possibility of abstaining and allowing the opposition to take control. His remarks were made during a press conference at the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela House in Soweto, Johannesburg, on April 28.
Malema's comments come amid political instability, sparked by a motion of no confidence in Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana by the MK Party. However, Malema rejected this motion, calling it inadequate and stating that the real issue is with President Ramaphosa, who he holds accountable for South Africa's current troubles. He emphasized that the opposition should target Ramaphosa, not just Godongwana, if they were serious about reform.
Malema also criticized the National Treasury, accusing it of being influenced by apartheid-era interests. He defended former President Jacob Zuma's decision to remove Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, claiming that Treasury officials conspired to undermine the state for personal gain. Malema argued that the budgeting function should be removed from Treasury and placed under political control to better reflect democratic leadership.
