Kremlin Says Peace Deal Must Be Done by Ukraine

(MENAFN) The Kremlin emphasized on Wednesday that any resolution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine must be brokered directly with Kyiv, rather than with Washington.

This statement came shortly after the United States cautioned that it might reduce its involvement as a mediator if meaningful advancement is not observed.

During a speech at an educational event in Moscow, Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the United States’ role in facilitating peace discussions and expressed appreciation for Washington's attempts to help mediate the conflict.

He also conveyed hope that American diplomatic efforts would yield positive outcomes.

Peskov mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin remains receptive to proposals regarding the issue and recognizes that the U.S. is pushing for swift progress.

However, he also remarked that "the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis are too complex to be resolved overnight" and emphasized the importance of considering numerous subtleties involved in the matter.

He reiterated that "a peace agreement must be concluded with Ukraine, not with America," suggesting that while direct communication between President Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump could be arranged if required, the primary negotiation must involve Kyiv.

Furthermore, Peskov affirmed that President Putin still supports resolving the Russia-Ukraine war through political and diplomatic channels.

However, he noted that Moscow has yet to receive any concrete response from the Ukrainian side.
