Global Electric Vehicle Sales Increase in April

(MENAFN) Global electric vehicle (EV) purchases experienced a notable 29 percent surge in April compared to the same month last year, defying ongoing international trade volatility, according to statistics published on Wednesday.

A total of 1.5 million EVs were purchased during April.

While this reflects an annual uptick of 29 percent, it also marked a monthly drop of 12 percent, based on findings from the UK-based analytics firm, Rho Motion.

From January through April 2025, EV sales climbed to 5.6 million units, maintaining the same 29 percent growth rate when contrasted with the corresponding period in 2024.

China played a dominant role, with 3.3 million vehicles sold in the first four months—an increase of 35 percent year-on-year.

In April alone, sales in China rose 32 percent annually, though they dipped 9 percent compared to March.

Across Europe, sales expanded by 25 percent year-on-year, reaching 1.2 million units between January and April.

Key European countries showed robust progress: Germany’s sales surged 42 percent, Italy saw a 56 percent increase, Spain witnessed a 57 percent rise, and the UK recorded a 32 percent boost.

However, France experienced a 14 percent decrease in sales over the same period, due to reduced consumer incentives.

In North America, encompassing the United States, Canada, and Mexico, sales rose modestly by 5 percent, amounting to 600,000 units during the first four months of 2025.
