Russian governor declares Ukrainian drones murdering three nationals in Kursk Region

(MENAFN) At least three civilians have been killed in Ukraine’s recent drone attacks on Russia’s Kursk Region, according to Acting Governor Aleksandr Khinstein. In a social media post on Monday, Khinstein condemned what he described as “crimes against civilians” committed by the Ukrainian military.

The attacks involved a Ukrainian first-person view drone that struck a car carrying five employees of a dairy farm. Two women were killed, while two others were seriously injured. In a separate incident, a man in his early 50s died after an explosive device, dropped from a UAV, hit his vehicle.

Khinstein urged residents of Kursk Region to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety in light of ongoing threats of further attacks.

Last year, Ukrainian forces had launched a major assault on the Kursk Region, temporarily seizing some border areas. While Russian forces announced the full liberation of these territories in late April, Ukraine has stated its cross-border operations are ongoing.

As Russia prepares to commemorate the 80th anniversary of its victory over Nazi Germany, President Vladimir Putin had ordered a three-day unilateral ceasefire. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the offer, insisting on an unconditional 30-day truce. Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials have also issued threats regarding the military parade in Moscow, which will be attended by international dignitaries, further escalating tensions. Russia has denounced these statements as part of a broader pattern of what it describes as terrorist tactics by Ukraine.
