Court Sees 'Change in Attitude' for UK Far-Right Activist
Robinson received an 18-month custodial term in October of the previous year.
His conviction stemmed from organizing aggressive and racially charged demonstrations throughout the UK and admitting to violating a legal restriction by reiterating unfounded accusations about a Syrian refugee.
The legal order had explicitly forbidden Robinson from restating fabricated claims against the Syrian refugee, who had previously succeeded in a defamation lawsuit against him.
His original penalty consisted of a 14-month "punitive" component and an additional four-month "coercive" segment.
During sentencing, Justice Johnson noted that Robinson could potentially have the coercive element lifted if he "purged" his contempt through compliance with the legal injunction.
Robinson made an application to purge his contempt at a court hearing on Tuesday.
His defense lawyers argued that he had shown "commitment" to upholding the terms of the court’s order.
Attorneys representing the Solicitor General also admitted that Robinson had begun to observe the conditions of the injunction.
In his judgment, Justice Johnson acknowledged that, despite an "absence of contrition or remorse," Robinson had exhibited a "change in attitude" since the imposition of his sentence.
