Officials state Ukrainian drones target residents in Russian border areas
In Belgorod, Ukrainian drones targeted multiple locations, including a car on the Krasny Oktyabr-Bessonovka road. A woman inside the vehicle was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds. Another drone attack in the village of Borki injured a 17-year-old boy, while another civilian was wounded in the back during an attack on the village of Bogun-Gorodok. Other strikes caused damage to homes, vehicles, and facilities in areas such as Arkhangelskoye, Sobolevka, Urazovo, and Chaiki.
Last year, Ukraine briefly captured parts of the Kursk Region in a cross-border operation, which it hoped to use in future peace talks. Despite the Russian military reclaiming the territory by late April, Ukraine continues to conduct drone and missile operations across the border. Ukrainian forces attempted several incursions into Belgorod and Kursk during Russia’s declared Victory Day truce from May 8 to May 11, all of which were unsuccessful.
While Russia remains open to peace talks, President Putin reiterated Moscow’s offer to engage in direct negotiations without conditions. However, Ukrainian President Zelensky has insisted on a full 30-day ceasefire as a prerequisite for any negotiations.
