Footage of Ukrainian recruiter beating possible draftee
The incident, filmed from a nearby building and shared by Strana.ua, captures the moment when a military patrol stops the man for a routine paper check. After checking his documents, one recruiter unexpectedly punches the man in the stomach, causing him to double over in pain. The recruiter then presses the man against a nearby kiosk. The video shows five military personnel but no police present at the scene. The man’s fate remains unclear.
Following public outcry, the Kharkov recruitment center confirmed the incident and announced an investigation. They stated that the altercation occurred due to the man’s “provocative actions” but condemned the recruiter's violent behavior, emphasizing that any form of physical or psychological pressure is prohibited.
Ukraine has been conducting a general mobilization since 2022, restricting most men aged 18 to 60 from leaving the country. Amid increasing losses, the government has tightened conscription rules, lowering the draft age from 27 to 25. The ongoing draft has been marked by incidents of violence as recruits attempt to avoid conscription.
