S. Korea Provides Training to Polish Troops on Chunmoo Rocket Artillery
(MENAFN) South Korea is providing training to a group of Polish soldiers on the Chunmoo rocket artillery, following Warsaw's recent acquisition of the system, as reported by Seoul-based news agency on Thursday.
The two-week training program, which began on May 15, is taking place at a training facility in Paju, located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) northwest of Seoul. Around 16 Polish soldiers are participating alongside South Korean trainees.
In 2022, Poland entered into a deal with Hanwha Aerospace Co., a major South Korean defense company, to purchase 218 Chunmoo multiple rocket launch systems, with an additional contract for 72 units set for 2024.
The South Korean army stated that the training program emphasizes the Chunmoo system’s strike capabilities, nighttime maintenance procedures, and other tactical operations.
Seoul also plans to offer additional training programs for personnel from other countries that have bought South Korean military systems, including K9 self-propelled howitzers and K2 tanks.
In an effort to strengthen its defense in response to the Russia-Ukraine war, Poland has signed foundational agreements with South Korea for various weapons systems, such as FA-50 light attack fighters, K2 tanks, and K9 howitzers.
