Putin aide declares Russia prepared for ‘possible compromises’
(MENAFN) Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky has confirmed that Moscow is open to both dialogue and potential compromises in renewed peace talks with Ukraine, set to take place in Türkiye. Medinsky, who also led Russia’s delegation during the 2022 Istanbul negotiations, will once again head the Russian team.
Following President Vladimir Putin’s recent call to revive direct talks, both Russia and Ukraine have dispatched delegations to Istanbul. Medinsky told reporters that Moscow is prepared to resume discussions and engage in meaningful negotiations, emphasizing that the Russian delegation is in a "working mood" and includes high-ranking officials from key government bodies.
The Russian team includes Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Deputy Defense Minister Aleksandr Fomin, and military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who had earlier demanded a 30-day ceasefire before agreeing to any talks, reversed his position after U.S. President Donald Trump voiced support for negotiations. While Zelensky has insisted on a direct meeting with Putin, he has authorized a Ukrainian delegation to engage with the Russian side, led by Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
Despite Zelensky’s presence in Türkiye, the Kremlin has confirmed that Putin will not attend the talks in person. The discussions are seen as a potential continuation of the 2022 negotiations, which Ukraine previously abandoned unilaterally.
