Trump declares he wants to get together with Putin ‘as soon as it can be set up’
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as arrangements can be made, emphasizing the urgency of resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
While speaking to reporters in the United Arab Emirates during his Middle East tour on Friday, Trump said it’s time to move forward with a meeting, stating, “We’re going to get it done,” and confirming his readiness to meet Putin “as soon as we can set it up.” Though he didn’t offer a specific date, Trump suggested that global security would significantly improve in the next “two to three weeks.”
Earlier, the US president had also considered traveling to Türkiye on Friday if developments around the ongoing Ukraine peace efforts warranted it.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, speaking the same day, acknowledged that a Trump-Putin summit is indeed necessary. However, he emphasized that such a high-level meeting must be carefully prepared to ensure it is productive. Peskov noted that expert consultations from both sides typically precede such summits.
According to Peskov, the meeting would be important not only for advancing US-Russia relations but also for addressing broader international issues, including the Ukraine conflict.
