Macron Comments on Controversial Video with First Lady
(MENAFN) French Leader Emmanuel Macron on Monday refuted rumors sparked by a widely shared video that appeared to show his wife, Brigitte Macron, pushing his face while aboard their official aircraft upon arriving in Vietnam.
“We were joking, nothing more, nothing less. And this has turned into some kind of geopolitical catastrophe,” Macron clarified, firmly denying any suggestion of a personal quarrel between the couple.
The clip, captured by various global media outlets, depicted the aircraft’s door opening on Sunday evening and showed the French first lady’s arm seemingly nudging the president’s face.
As they descended the staircase to meet Vietnamese dignitaries, Macron extended his arm toward his spouse, who appeared to dismiss the gesture.
Addressing the growing buzz on social platforms, Macron condemned the exaggerated reactions.
"I see many crazies spending a lot of time interpreting these videos," he remarked, criticizing what he saw as overstated or misleading interpretations circulating online.
He referred to two other recent incidents in which video footage of him had been misconstrued.
"In the past three weeks, there are people who watched videos and thought I was sharing a bag of cocaine, that I was engaged in a mano a mano with a Turkish president, and now that I’m having a domestic argument with my wife. None of that is true," he stated.
Macron further hinted that foreign entities may be playing a role in fueling these rumors.
“To spread these things, the Russians are good allies, and the extremes in France are formidable proxies,” he added.
