North Korea Blasts Trump's 'Golden Dome' Plan as Global Threat
In a memorandum issued by its Foreign Ministry, Pyongyang accused Washington of using the defense strategy to endanger the strategic balance among nuclear-armed nations the U.S. views as adversaries. The document further claimed the plan is designed to bolster American military aggression under the guise of self-defense, the news outlet reported.
"The U.S., which defined outer space as a battlefield in future in its early years, has been hell-bent on the moves to militarize outer space, claiming that those who dominate outer space can win victory in the future war," the ministry said.
It warned that Washington’s pursuit of a new missile defense architecture could ignite a global arms race in both nuclear and space domains.
"The U.S. plan for building a new missile defense system is the root cause of sparking off a global nuclear and space arms race by stimulating the security concerns of nuclear weapons states and turning outer space into a potential nuclear war field," the statement continued.
The ministry went on to accuse the U.S. of disguising its hegemonic ambitions as national defense, using the “Golden Dome” project as a cover to accelerate military dominance in space.
"It is to preemptively attain military superiority in an all-round way by justifying its hegemony-oriented moves for a space arms buildup and accelerating outer space militarization behind the screen of ‘mainland defense’ and to launch the military strike at its enemy states at its will by relying on it," the statement added. "This is the military strategic goal pursued by the U.S. and the main goal of the ‘Golden Dome’ project being prioritized by the present U.S. administration."
President Trump recently announced that the "architecture" for the "Golden Dome" system had been selected. The missile defense program is projected to cost $175 billion over three years and will "deploy next-generation technologies across the land, sea and space, including space-based sensors and interceptors." though detailed specifications remain unclear.
