Kanlaon Volcano Erupts in Philippines

(MENAFN) A volcanic eruption occurred in the central region of the Philippines, hurling a column of ash into the air and leading officials to escalate the danger level, according to local news sources on Tuesday.

As per a report from the media, referencing information from the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Kanlaon Volcano experienced no fewer than 31 volcanic tremors over the span of 24 hours.

Additionally, a substantial ash cloud soared 700 meters (2,296 feet) above the crater.

The volcano also emitted a total of 1,124 tons of sulfur dioxide within one day, the report mentioned.

Officials responded by increasing the alert level and cautioning nearby communities about possible threats linked to the eruption.

They also instructed people residing within a 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) radius of the volcano to leave the summit vicinity. Moreover, aircraft were prohibited from flying close to the area surrounding Kanlaon.
