India Advances Model for Stealth Fighter Jet
According to an official announcement released on Tuesday, the Aeronautical Development Agency will lead the initiative in collaboration with industrial partners.
The AMCA represents a major undertaking by India to create a next-generation, multi-purpose fighter jet featuring stealth characteristics, intended for deployment by both the Indian Air Force and Navy.
The endeavor highlights India’s growing focus on self-reliance in defense technology.
The Defense Ministry stated that the initiative will be open to both private and government-owned entities on a competitive basis. Interested parties may enter the race alone, form alliances, or operate as members of a consortium.
This strategy reflects a notable shift away from the conventional method of assigning advanced military research and development projects solely to state-run organizations.
This next-generation aircraft is envisioned as a single-pilot, twin-engine, all-weather fighter capable of fulfilling various combat roles.
These include establishing air dominance, conducting surface attacks, neutralizing hostile air defenses, and executing electronic warfare operations.
The AMCA initiative was granted preliminary approval by the Cabinet Committee on Security, which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the previous year.
The program aligns with Modi’s broader policy of prioritizing domestic defense manufacturing and technological innovation.
