Russia eliminates Ukrainian rotorcraft drone bombers
In the video published Thursday, Russian forces from the Western military group are seen using small kamikaze drones to shoot down three of these Ukrainian aerial vehicles. Thanks to Starlink, the Baba Yaga drones can operate over long distances, giving them capabilities similar to high-end military drones. They typically have four to six rotors and can carry heavy payloads, but their size also makes them easier targets for air defenses and snipers.
The Russian military has previously outlined strategies for neutralizing these drones, including the use of sniper teams. These units involve a spotter who can provide covering fire with an assault rifle while the sniper takes aim. A sniper, identified by the callsign “Sirius,” explained that if the drone operators detect their position, the team may choose to stay in place and switch to long-range rifles. Though hitting high-speed drones requires precision, Sirius noted that experienced shooters can down them in just a few shots.
