Erdogan Praises Azerbaijan’s Strength, Independence
Speaking in Lachin—a region Azerbaijan regained following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict—Erdogan emphasized that the military triumph had bolstered the nation’s strength and economic stability.
He stated, “The victory in Karabakh has made Azerbaijan much stronger and more prosperous today. The torch of independence lit on that day is illuminating the path of a much stronger Azerbaijan.”
These remarks underlined how the territorial gains have contributed to Azerbaijan’s national progress and optimism.
Erdogan also expressed personal satisfaction in taking part in the event, remarking: "As a son of a nation that knows very well how independence is achieved and how valuable it is, I wholeheartedly congratulate you on your Independence Day."
His sentiments reflected shared historical experiences and solidarity between Turkey and Azerbaijan in their respective quests for self-determination.
He continued by honoring the legacy of those who sacrificed for freedom, saying, "I remember our heroes' glorious struggles for independence and the future, which were crowned with martyrdom, mercy, and respect. May God bless the souls of our dear martyrs and grant them paradise.”
This tribute underscored the emotional and spiritual weight of the occasion.
The president noted that after three decades of what he called “captivity,” it was now time for Karabakh to embark on a journey defined by “success, peace, and development.” This hopeful vision pointed to a future where reconstruction and stability replace past conflict.
Erdogan also highlighted joint infrastructure achievements, recalling that he and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had previously inaugurated the Fuzuli and Zengilan international airports.
He added, “Today, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to open the Lachin International Airport.” The Turkish leader emphasized growing bilateral ties across various sectors, noting, “From energy to transportation, from defense to trade, from agriculture to education, we are establishing strong partnerships with Azerbaijan in every field, thanks be to God.”
