Lavrov informed Rubio that Moscow is in the final stages of preparing proposals for a forthcoming round of direct discussions with Kyiv, the ministry noted.
Rubio emphasized Trump’s determination to bring the conflict to a rapid conclusion and indicated that the United States is ready to facilitate efforts to bridge the gap between the involved parties.
“The parties confirmed their mutual commitment to continuing a constructive and mutually respectful dialogue between the foreign policy departments of Russia and the United States,” the ministry added.
In addition, the two officials discussed matters concerning bilateral relations, although specific details were not disclosed.
According to a statement from the U.S. State Department, the call also highlighted approval of the recent exchange of “1,000-for-1,000” prisoners between Russia and Ukraine over the weekend.
"The Secretary reiterated President Trump’s calls for constructive, good faith dialogue with Ukraine as the only path to ending this war," the readout said.
Lavrov had earlier stated that Russia has suggested holding the next phase of talks with Ukraine on June 2 in Istanbul.
