AI Projects Funding Proposals Rise in Europe
(MENAFN) Proposals seeking funding for artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives across Europe have experienced a “tremendous rise,” leading to a growing necessity for more focused panels to assess these submissions, according to the vice president of the European Research Council (ERC), who shared these insights with a news agency.
Eystein Jansen, speaking at GITEX Europe 2025—the continent’s premier technology exhibition held in Berlin—explained that the ERC finances research across an extensive spectrum of disciplines, “from outer space to inner Earth to social science.”

Jansen further described the ERC’s mission as attracting Europe’s top talents to propose the most innovative and ambitious projects they aspire to pursue.

He stressed that the AI sector is advancing rapidly, with the surge in AI-related project applications expected to persist.
Jansen observed that artificial intelligence has become an integral component in nearly every research domain, serving as a standard part of scientists’ toolkits.
“This wasn’t the case a few years back—this has revolutionized research,” he remarked.
Jansen also highlighted the significant influence AI has had in various fields over the past two years, citing meteorology as an example.
“For instance, we now can do weather forecasting using artificial intelligence that is just as good as the old-fashioned way of doing it for less the price and less computer power to develop,” he explained, illustrating AI’s efficiency and transformative impact.
