Ukraine’s Drone Strikes Destroy 34 Percent of Russia’s Bombers: SBU
According to a statement from the SBU, Ukrainian forces used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to carry out precision strikes on key Russian military airfields.
The operation, dubbed "Spider Web," inflicted an estimated $7 billion in losses to Russia’s long-range aviation infrastructure, the agency claimed.
Previously, the SBU had described the operation as a “large-scale” drone offensive, reporting that more than 40 strategic bombers were taken out during the raids. These strikes hit multiple Russian regions, including Irkutsk in Siberia—located over 4,300 kilometers (2,670 miles) from Ukraine’s border.
Four major airbases were simultaneously struck: Olenya, Ivanovo, Dyagilevo, and Belaya, the statement detailed.
Later on Sunday, Russia’s Defense Ministry released its version of events, asserting that drone assaults on three of its airbases had been unsuccessful. However, the ministry did concede that a number of aircraft at other locations had caught fire, though the blazes were eventually brought under control.
Russia said Ukrainian drones targeted bases in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions. According to the ministry, strikes on facilities in Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur were successfully fended off.
