Zelenskyy Commends "Brilliant" Ukraine Strikes on Russian Bomber Jets
(MENAFN) On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commended the recent assault on Russian strategic bomber jets, describing the operation as "brilliant" and emphasizing it was "achieved solely by Ukraine."
Zelenskyy shared on X that “Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Maliuk delivered a report regarding today’s operation. An absolutely brilliant result. A result achieved solely by Ukraine. One year, six months, and nine days from the start of planning to effective execution.”
Highlighting the scale of the mission, he pointed out it was Ukraine's “longest-range operation,” noting that personnel involved in the attack’s planning “were withdrawn from Russian territory on time.”
The Ukrainian leader instructed the Security Service to disclose publicly what details and results could be shared while acknowledging that some information remains classified for now.
"Ukraine is defending itself, and rightly so—we are doing everything to make Russia feel the need to end this war. Russia started this war; Russia must end it," Zelenskyy added firmly.
Earlier in the day, Ukraine’s military launched a “large-scale” offensive against Russia. According to state media reports on Sunday, more than 40 strategic bomber jets were destroyed in strikes involving drones across multiple regions, including the Siberian area of Irkutsk—located over 4,000 kilometers from the border.
While two regional governors have already confirmed the Ukrainian strike, the Russian Defense Ministry released a statement later Sunday denying the success of attacks on three bases. They admitted that some aircraft caught fire at other airfields but insisted these fires were quickly extinguished.
