Syria Plans Reopening Al-Arida Border Crossing
The reopening comes just days before the celebration of Eid al-Adha, allowing for increased travel between the neighboring nations.
In a public notice, “We kindly inform travelers that the Al-Arida border crossing with Lebanon will open for passenger movement on Tuesday morning,” declared Syria’s Land and Sea Ports General Authority.
The authority emphasized that the reopening is occurring “despite ongoing restoration and maintenance work, in order to facilitate the movement of residents during the Eid al-Adha holiday,” which is set to commence on Friday.
The border point lies between the Lebanese village of Al-Arida in the Akkar Governorate and Syria’s Tartus Governorate.
Syrian crews have been conducting renovations on their side of the crossing as part of broader infrastructure improvement initiatives.
Meanwhile, Lebanese teams have repaired their side of the checkpoint, which had been damaged during Israeli aerial attacks amid the recent bout of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel in September.
So far, Lebanon’s government has not released an official declaration regarding the reopening.
The resumption of activity at the Al-Arida border crossing is anticipated to simplify travel for citizens and promote commerce between Syria and Lebanon during the holiday season.
Syria and Lebanon are linked by six formal checkpoints: Jdeidet Yabous, Dabousiyah, Jusiyah, Talkalakh, Matribah, and Al-Arida.
