Deco Leads Barcelona’s Revival

When asked by a news agency whether Barcelona should now be considered a well-managed club, Deco responded: "Barcelona is my club, I love Barcelona. I saw what happened from the outside and always thought I could help put Barca at the same high level."
He acknowledged the challenges he faced when he arrived, noting that the issue was not simply financial but rather the complexities of Spain’s strict financial fair play regulations.
Deco pointed out that these rules are more restrictive than those in the Premier League and other leagues, which creates difficulties for numerous clubs. "You just hear about Barca because we are a big club," he said, highlighting the club’s prominence as a reason for increased scrutiny.
Despite these hurdles, Deco emphasized the importance of combining talents from La Masia, the club's famed youth academy, with seasoned professionals to strengthen the squad.
He also made it clear that while Barcelona continues to cooperate with La Liga, they hope regulatory conditions will evolve in their favor. Still, even in the face of ongoing challenges, the outlook remains bright.
Barcelona is poised for a financial boost thanks to "one of the biggest contracts in history" with Nike, and the completion of the revamped 100,000-capacity Nou Camp is expected to make it the largest stadium in Europe and a major source of increased revenue.
