Bangladesh Launches Fresh Banknotes Featuring Historic Architecture
The redesigned currency officially entered circulation on Monday through various bank branches across Dhaka, marking a significant update to the nation's paper money just days ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations, which are scheduled for June 7.
On the first day of issuance, residents of the capital were seen forming lines at banks, eager to collect the newly released notes in preparation for the upcoming holiday, when exchanging crisp bills is a common cultural practice.
Despite the rollout of this updated currency, the Bangladesh Bank confirmed that all previously issued banknotes and coins will continue to be legal tender and circulate alongside the new designs.
This initiative not only aims to modernize the look and feel of Bangladesh’s currency, but also serves to highlight the nation’s cultural legacy by incorporating architectural motifs from historic landmarks into the new note designs.
