Zelenskyy Urges Stronger U.S. Action

(MENAFN) Ukrainian Leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized on Tuesday that concerns about provoking Russia are no longer valid, as Moscow continues its relentless and deadly strikes on Ukraine.

He called on the United States to take firmer measures to compel the Kremlin to agree to a ceasefire and bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

Responding to questions from reporters about whether a recent Ukrainian operation could further provoke Russian aggression, Zelenskyy highlighted the scale of violence already endured by his country.

He recalled that just one day prior, Russia had unleashed a large-scale overnight bombardment involving more than 480 drones and missiles targeting civilian areas and residential zones.

He pointed out that such attacks occur "every single day."

Zelenskyy noted that what Ukrainians now refer to as a “pause” merely means that no one was killed that night—though injuries and drone activity often persist. “But even then, drones still fly, and people still get wounded,” he stated on X.

The Ukrainian leader clarified that these so-called pauses do not represent a true lull in hostilities.

Instead, they simply involve a reduced number of assaults, with Ukraine still enduring “dozens of drones and cruise missiles” regularly.

He firmly dismissed the notion that it matters whether Russia becomes enraged by Ukrainian actions.

“What matters is that Russia must move toward ending this war,” he said, stressing that the global community must act collectively to halt the violence.

Zelenskyy also made a direct appeal to the United States, urging it to play a more assertive role.

“We are very much awaiting strong steps from the United States,” he said.

He expressed optimism that Leader Trump would support punitive measures and push Russian President Vladimir Putin toward peace, beginning with a ceasefire.

He concluded by expressing hope that pressure from Washington could expedite the process of stopping the war and pave the way for a resolution.
