Kiev remarks on Russia, Ukraine peace talks
In statements made after the talks, Umerov, who headed Ukraine’s negotiating team, indicated that the agenda covered several critical issues. These included discussions around implementing a potential ceasefire, addressing humanitarian needs, and the possibility of arranging a direct meeting between Ukrainian Leader Vladimir Zelensky and Russian Leader Vladimir Putin.
When addressing the issue of prisoner exchanges, Umerov emphasized that the approach would be based on prioritizing specific groups rather than focusing on overall numbers. As noted, both nations came to a consensus to conduct a comprehensive swap of prisoners who are severely injured or seriously ill, using what was described as an “all-for-all” exchange model.
“The second category is young soldiers aged 18 to 25. Also all for all. We also agreed to return 6,000 for 6,000 bodies of dead soldiers,” Umerov said.
Additionally, Umerov mentioned that Ukraine had put forward a proposal for a third round of negotiations, suggesting that it take place sometime between June 20 and 30.
