Governor states collapsed bridge in Russia’s Bryansk Region was bombed
The bridge that collapsed onto a moving passenger train in Russia’s Bryansk Region was intentionally blown up, according to local governor Aleksandr Bogomaz. The incident, which occurred late Saturday, resulted in at least seven fatalities and 69 injuries.
Governor Bogomaz told Russia 24 that the bridge on a highway was destroyed while a train carrying 388 passengers was passing underneath. All wounded individuals were quickly hospitalized, with two patients—including a child—in critical condition and set to be transferred to Moscow for further care.
The collapse caused the derailment of a Moscow-bound passenger train. Officials are treating the event as a deliberate act of sabotage. A law enforcement source told RT that a section of the bridge fell onto the tracks directly in front of the train, leaving the driver no chance to avoid the accident. Both the driver and his assistant likely died instantly from the collision.
Investigations are underway to determine whether the incident qualifies as a terrorist attack. Russian Federation Council member Andrey Klishas accused Kiev of orchestrating the derailment, calling Ukraine a “terrorist group” and claiming it has lost its state attributes.
Klishas called for the establishment of a large buffer zone within Ukrainian territory to prevent future attacks and ensure that “terrorists” cannot reach Russian soil again.
