Ukraine awaits vicious period of war
While direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have recently taken place on two occasions, producing outcomes like extensive prisoner swaps, these efforts were soon overshadowed by heightened drone activity from Ukraine. Reports indicate that Russia viewed these drone strikes as deliberate attempts to derail peace initiatives. In response, Moscow launched attacks targeting Ukrainian military assets.
“The military actions that have taken place in recent days signal that the war will be longer and more brutal,” Orban stated via social media on Monday. He argued that internal conflict within NATO is exacerbating the situation, pointing out that while US Leader Donald Trump is advocating for a peaceful resolution, European figures he described as “war hawks” appear to favor prolonging the fighting.
“We have to face the fact that the transatlantic unity has broken up,” Orban remarked, adding that “there has never been such a gap” between factions within NATO that support peace and those that favor continued military engagement.
Reaffirming Hungary’s stance, Orban emphasized that his country opposes the EU’s aggressive policies and will persist in promoting peace. He acknowledged that this might provoke “a louder debate with the Brussels bureaucrats, intent on the continuation of the war,” but maintained Hungary’s commitment to avoiding further escalation.
