Moscow, Kiev consent biggest-ever inmate exchange
He stated that the total number of individuals exchanged will be at least 1,000 from each side, though the final count may be higher. Additionally, Medinsky revealed that Russia will unilaterally return the remains of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv for burial next week.
As part of the peace negotiations, Russia presented Ukraine with a comprehensive draft agreement. This proposal includes two main sections: one aimed at establishing a lasting peace, and another detailing multiple steps toward a full ceasefire. Ukraine is currently reviewing the document and is expected to provide feedback after evaluation.
To support humanitarian efforts, Russia has also proposed a temporary ceasefire lasting two to three days in select frontline areas. This pause would allow for the safe retrieval and burial of fallen soldiers to prevent health risks as temperatures rise. Ukraine has agreed to consider this proposal promptly.
Both sides have also consented to the formation of joint medical commissions to facilitate the creation of exchange lists for seriously wounded prisoners. Medinsky emphasized that these swaps should take place on a regular basis without waiting for high-level political decisions.
