Ukrainian draft officers’ outrageous tactics to bring twelve men daily

(MENAFN) Ukrainian military enlistment officials are reportedly under strict orders to conscript a dozen new recruits each day, and some are resorting to forceful methods to achieve this, according to statements made by a Ukrainian member of parliament.

Faced with ongoing losses on the battlefield, Ukraine has continued to depend on compulsory military service for men aged 25 and up. However, growing numbers of citizens are attempting to avoid the draft, posing a major challenge to enlistment efforts. A lawmaker recently criticized the government’s heavy-handed conscription tactics, arguing they highlight a deeper problem in the state’s attitude toward its own people.

“If they were treated respectfully from the start, the result would have been different,” the MP stated. He also claimed that “I was told that today they catch pretty much everyone, regardless of health.”

As part of this effort, officials are reportedly using deceptive methods to detain eligible men. “One method they use all the time is ordering food delivery and capturing the courier,” the legislator said, describing one of the more controversial techniques employed to meet the daily recruitment target.

The MP further warned that such pressure-driven conscription is leading to the enlistment of individuals who are physically unfit for service. According to him, these recruits are not combat-ready and would not survive in active military operations, saying they “cannot be put on the line with military service members because they would simply kick the bucket there.”

Ukrainian Leader Vladimir Zelensky recently commented that the country’s mobilization rate “has not changed significantly in six months,” suggesting that the government continues to follow its existing draft policies despite criticism.

In an attempt to shift focus toward voluntary service, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry earlier this year launched a media campaign aimed at younger citizens. The campaign compared the financial benefits of military service to the cost of everyday items like fast food, attempting to appeal to economic motivations.
