Incident in Munich Sparks Major Police Operation

(MENAFN) One individual has been reported dead and another injured in Munich following a series of gunshots and explosions heard throughout the city, as reported by a German tabloid.

The alarming events triggered an extensive police and fire response on Wednesday morning in the Lerchenau district in northern Munich.

Authorities deployed special units and bomb disposal teams, establishing security perimeters around the affected area, according to the tabloid.

The police later verified the ongoing operation and urged residents to steer clear of the vicinity for their safety.

the tabloid reported that “a male body was found,” suggesting that the man may have rigged his parents’ home with explosives, set the property ablaze, and then ended his own life.

Additionally, at least one other individual was discovered with gunshot injuries, although the outlet did not provide further details or clarify any connection between the victims.

Officials assured the public that there was “no danger to the public,” confirming they were “responding to an incident due to a burning residential building.”

They noted that “loud banging noises were heard” and that “an injured person was found who might be linked to the incident.”

Law enforcement further emphasized that the event is unrelated to Oktoberfest, Munich’s internationally renowned beer festival.

The 190th Oktoberfest is scheduled to take place from September 20 to October 5, 2025, typically attracting up to six million attendees, with security forces maintaining heightened vigilance during the celebrations.
