Zelenskyy Calls on G7 to Seal Loopholes on Russia’s Arms

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday called on the Group of Seven (G7) nations to intensify coordinated efforts to seal gaps in sanctions that enable Russia to procure foreign-made parts for its weaponry.

“In the fourth year of the full-scale war, Russia continues to obtain components for producing weapons,” Zelenskyy stated on Telegram, referencing Russia’s large-scale assault on Ukraine on the night of October 5.

He disclosed that Russia deployed 549 weapon systems in the recent attack, containing over 102,000 foreign components sourced from companies across the US, China, Taiwan, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.

Zelenskyy highlighted that nearly 100,000 of these parts were embedded in attack drones, with additional components traced to Iskander, Kinzhal, and Kalibr missiles.

He noted that converters, sensors, and microelectronics from Western and Asian manufacturers remain regularly used in Russian munitions.

“Partners already possess the detailed data on each company and each product — they know what to target and how to respond,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Ukraine has proposed new sanctions aimed at disrupting Moscow’s supply chains.

He expressed optimism that the G7 sanctions coordinators, meeting this week, will make a “systemic decision” to boost sanctions’ impact.

Separately, Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported on Telegram that Russia launched 762 strikes across 17 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region in the past 24 hours, resulting in one death and 11 injuries.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 251 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 62 over the Black Sea and five over the Azov Sea.

Ongoing conflict conditions continue to limit independent verification of battlefield claims.
