Putin, Netanyahu talk about Gaza’s situation amid Trump’s peace plan
According to reports, the Kremlin stated that “Putin reaffirmed Russia's unwavering position in favor of a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue based on a well-known international legal framework,” adding that the leaders also exchanged perspectives on other regional matters.
Both leaders expressed special interest in pursuing negotiated solutions regarding Iran’s nuclear program and advancing stabilization efforts in Syria.
The call occurred one day ahead of the second anniversary of Israel’s war in Gaza, a conflict in which over 67,100 Palestinians, mostly women and children, were killed. The bombardment has left much of the enclave nearly uninhabitable, causing widespread displacement, famine, and disease.
Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations began indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday to consider Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan, which was unveiled on September 29. The proposal outlines the release of Israeli captives within 72 hours of Israel’s approval, the establishment of a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas.
Trump urged Israel on Saturday to “stop bombing Gaza immediately” after Hamas indicated a positive reception to his plan, signaling a potential opening for negotiations.
