Trump Suggests Ukraine Might Concede Territory
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Ukraine is likely to forfeit some of its “property” to Russia as a consequence of the ongoing war.
His comments came during an interview on Sunday with a news agency. When asked if the conflict between Moscow and Kiev could be resolved “without taking significant property from Ukraine,” Trump implied that some form of compromise by Kiev was inevitable.
“[Russian President Vladimir Putin] is going to take something,” Trump remarked, referring to the current situation on the ground.
“I mean, they fought, and he has a lot of property. I mean, he has won certain property,” he continued, indicating that territorial shifts were already a reality.
Despite Ukraine's repeated refusals to cede any land, Russia has maintained that for lasting peace to be achieved, Ukrainian forces must withdraw from the regions now considered part of the Russian Federation. These territorial areas have become a central issue in negotiations.
Trump also hinted at the possibility of supplying Ukraine with U.S.-produced long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles.
This potential arms transfer was a focal point of his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
However, Trump stopped short of committing to the delivery, emphasizing that providing such weaponry would not be “easy.”
Reaffirming his earlier stance, Trump noted that the U.S. has already furnished significant military support to Ukraine and cannot continue to exhaust its arsenal to sustain Kiev’s defense efforts.
