Japan’s Sanae Takaichi Rules Out Dissolving Parliament
(MENAFN) Japan’s recently appointed Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, announced that she has no intention of dissolving parliament following her return from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, according to a news agency.
During a press briefing held in South Korea, Takaichi emphasized that her foremost focus is fulfilling her commitments to the citizens of Japan, with particular attention to vital economic initiatives.
"I don't have time to consider that at the moment," she responded when questioned by journalists about whether she plans to disband the Lower House upon returning home.
Takaichi, chosen last month as Japan’s inaugural female prime minister, took over from Shigeru Ishiba, who stepped down after mounting internal criticism within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party due to successive electoral losses.
Earlier in the week, she welcomed US President Donald Trump to Japan and later traveled to Malaysia to participate in an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.
On Thursday, Takaichi arrived in South Korea to attend the APEC gathering—her first trip to the country since assuming office—where she held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on the sidelines of the event.
