Explosion Rips Through S. Korea Thermal Power Plant
Emergency services received the distress call at approximately 2:43 p.m. local time (0543 GMT) reporting flames and an explosion near the rear entrance of the Taean thermal power station, located roughly 150 kilometers southwest of Seoul, according to a news agency.
Fire department personnel and emergency equipment were immediately deployed to battle the conflagration at the energy production facility.
Preliminary assessments indicated a gas detonation occurred on the ground floor of the power plant structure, triggering the emergency response.
Medical personnel transported both injured workers to medical facilities for treatment of burns characterized as non-life-threatening by authorities.
Emergency responders and law enforcement officials continued sweeping the facility for any additional casualties as employees evacuated the compound. The investigation into the explosion's cause remained ongoing as firefighters worked to fully extinguish the blaze.
