Dr. Anton Anthony Qualifies for State Superintendent, Launches Exposure Gap Plan from New Book
Current Superintendent outlines statewide framework to expand career pathways and strengthen struggling schools.
ATLANTA, GA, UNITED STATES, March 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Dr. Anton Anthony, current Superintendent of Hancock County Schools, has officially qualified as a candidate for Georgia State Superintendent of Schools, launching a campaign focused on what he calls a statewide “Exposure Gap.”
“We don’t have an ability problem in Georgia,” Anthony said. “We have an exposure problem.”
Anthony, who has served as a teacher, principal, district administrator, and now superintendent across multiple Georgia districts — including Burke, Muscogee, McDuffie, Sumter, Richmond, DeKalb, and Hancock counties — says students across the state are often asked to choose careers they were never shown.
“Talent is everywhere in Georgia,” he said. “Opportunity is not.”
The announcement comes as dozens of schools across the state remain identified on the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement Promise List, highlighting ongoing performance challenges in multiple districts.
“As State Superintendent, my job would not be to label schools,” Anthony said. “It would be to strengthen systems so a child’s future is not determined by their zip code.”
Anthony recently released a new book, The Educational Exposure Gap: Why Our Children Are Unprepared, and How We Transform Their Future, outlining a framework that expands access to Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) pathways and strengthens regional collaboration among districts.
His proposal emphasizes:
• Strong early literacy foundations
• Intentional middle-grade exposure to industries
• Expanded workforce and entrepreneurship pathways
• Regional partnerships through Georgia’s RESA network
In Hancock County, Anthony has gained attention for hands-on leadership — including driving school buses during staffing shortages and leading literacy growth initiatives that resulted in measurable academic gains.
“This campaign is about practical solutions,” Anthony said. “Our students deserve systems that expose them to opportunity, build adaptability, and prepare them to lead in a changing world.”
Anthony says he will continue serving as Superintendent of Hancock County Schools while engaging communities statewide about strengthening Georgia’s public education system.
