US Lawmakers Criticize Trump’s War Strategy on Iran

(MENAFN) US lawmakers from both parties expressed concern on Tuesday over the strategy and potential consequences of the US-Israeli campaign against Iran following a classified congressional briefing, according to reports.

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy described the Trump administration’s plans as “incoherent and incomplete” after attending the two-hour closed-door session.

“So they are going to spend hundreds of billions of your taxpayer dollars, get a whole bunch of Americans killed, and a hardline regime - probably a MORE anti-American hardline regime - will still be in charge,” Murphy wrote on the US social media platform X after the briefing.

Although he could not reveal classified details, Murphy said the discussion left him deeply concerned about the administration’s approach. He noted that destroying Iran’s nuclear weapons program is not included among the stated objectives, nor is regime change in Tehran, raising questions about what the administration hopes to achieve with its strikes.

According to Murphy, the briefing suggested that the primary targets are Iranian missiles, naval vessels, and drone manufacturing facilities.
