He added that the attack had devastated a community space used for worship and gathering, stating: “Today, this community space was shattered by gunfire. California sends our deepest condolences to the families and communities impacted by today’s shooting,”
Reinforcing the state’s position on protecting religious communities, he said: “Worshippers anywhere should not have to fear for their lives. Hate has no place in California, and we will not tolerate acts of terror or intimidation against communities of faith,”
He also addressed the Muslim community directly, stating: “To the San Diego Muslim community: California stands with you.”
Law enforcement officials reported that three victims, including a security guard, were killed during the attack, while two suspected shooters were later found dead from what authorities believe were self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
The incident is under active investigation as authorities continue to examine motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
