Seven Dead in Fresh Israeli Strikes on S. Lebanon
(MENAFN) At least seven Lebanese civilians were killed and two others wounded Wednesday as Israeli forces launched another wave of strikes on southern Lebanon — the latest in a string of ceasefire violations that have left the fragile US-brokered truce on the verge of collapse, according to Lebanese media reports.
Fighter jets targeted the al-Baraka neighborhood in the town of Doueir, leaving five people dead and two others injured, a state news agency reported. Several residential properties were completely leveled in the assault, the agency added.
A second strike hit near a hospital in the town of Tebnine, claiming two additional lives, according to the same source.
Wednesday's bloodshed follows an even deadlier 24-hour period. At least 16 people were killed across southern Lebanon in Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday alone, with the Health Ministry confirming that three women and three children were among those who lost their lives.
The relentless bombardment continues despite a US-mediated ceasefire formally announced on April 17 and subsequently extended through the beginning of July — an agreement Israel has now repeatedly breached.
The human cost of Israel's military campaign has reached staggering levels. Since March 2, Israeli operations across Lebanon have killed 3,042 people and wounded 9,301 others, according to Lebanese officials. More than 1.6 million people — roughly one in five of the country's entire population — have been forcibly displaced by the sustained offensive.
